Cameron is located in the historic Missouri tribal hunting grounds. It was first settled by Davis who established the first post office. The first store was built in 1849 and the town established in 1855. The Hound Dog trail, a wagon trail, ran along the road now known as Highway 36.
Then came the east-west Hannibal-St. Joseph railroad and the north-south Rock Island railroad, which intersected at Cameron. Our legacy as the crossroads of the nation was begun. Now, the automobile is king of our newest roads, US 36 and Interstate 35. We like to say we're on the road to everywhere!
